MARQUETTE - Parking for holiday shopping in downtown Marquette is going to be a little bit easier starting later this week.

The Marquette Downtown Development Authority and Marquette City Police Department have partnered to offer complimentary parking during select hours. Starting Thursday parking will be free in the city after 3 p.m. on weekdays. It's a way for the DDA to encourage shoppers to use the downtown stores for their holiday needs say DDA Executive Director Mona Lang.

"This will apply to all of the lots, all of the meters," she said. "So if you're coming downtown at 2:00, you only need to put in a quick hour, or if you're coming down at 2:30, it's 25 cents for a half hour. Then after three the meters will tell you that it's complimentary parking."

The free parking comes in time for Small Business Saturday, which is Saturday, November 25th.
Complimentary parking hours will end on Friday, December 29th.
