DELTA COUNTY - The United Steelworkers Union Local 2-21 wrapped up its "Strike Against Hunger" food drive Sunday evening, and it was deemed a success for a fourth straight year. Union members from the Verso Paper Mill manned tables in front of Elmer's County Market and Gladstone's Pat's Foods for 48 straight hours, starting at 5:00 Friday afternoon.

Organizer Brandon Stromberg tells the Radio Results Network that 2,962 pounds of food were collected, along with $5,217.35 in cash. The food will be donated to the Escanaba Salvation Army, and to the St. Vincent dePaul food pantries in Escanaba and Gladstone.

"I'm just blown away by the generosity of this community," Stromberg told RRN News.

The money will be used to go to local stores and buy even more food, which will also be given to the charities.

This was the fourth year for the food drive. The North Bluff Grocery Store, White's Grocery, and Kuchenberg's Corner Store also served as drop-off points for the food drive.
