IRON RIVER-- Iron River, MI is home to the U.P. Championship Rodeo and this weekend the event is celebrating 50 years.
Bernadette Coates, U.P. Championship Rodeo Treasurer says, "We started last night the weekend off with a 50th reception. Which was for past contestants, queen contestants and board members. And then today we started with Market Days."
Market Days covers three blocks of downtown Iron River, featuring 50 vendors.
There are three rodeo performances over the weekend, the organization aims to make it an event for the whole family to enjoy.
Coates says, "I think it's a family event all weekend long. There's always something for the family.
Besides the performances, the Miss U.P. Rodeo Queen and Princess will also be crowned. The 2017 Miss Rodeo America travels all across the country and has stopped in the U.P. to attend the weekend long event.
Lisa Lageschaar, 2017 Miss Rodeo America says, "The people here are so, so nice. We've been through lots and different visits. I've met so many people in the town."
Tomorrow's events kick off at 8a.m. with the Windsor Rodeo Run and a pancake breakfast at the Iron River Senior Center.
Tickets for the 2 and 7p.m. rodeo performances are $15 for adults,$5 for children ages 5-12 and under 5 get in for free.
