ISHPEMING - The Ishpeming Hematites will be hoping to start their season off on the right foot when they visit Gladstone tonight.

The Ishpeming Hematites will be relying on something they didn't have last year. We caught up with the team to see what we can expect from the Hematites this season.

"Last year we only had three seniors on the team so we're seeing a lot more playing experience because we had a really young team last year," said Anthony Katona, Ishpeming Boys Head Coach. "Little more experience this year should help us hopefully in the crunch time games this year as conference play keeps going on."

The Hematites are small in roster size, but you'd better not write them off. They've had their growing pains and they're ready to use that to their advantage.

"We're definitely going to surprise a few people," said Hart Holmgren, Senior Shooting Guard/ Small Forward. "Last year we had a lot of the right pieces but we didn't have the experience to go along with it. So this year we'll have more experience, we're older, we're bigger and, like I said, we're going to surprise a lot of people."

"We always joke around all the time and we're always getting on each other and pushing each other, whether it's arguments and stuff," said Dondre Yohe, Senior Small Forward/ Power Forward. "We really don't get mad at each other or stay mad for very long. We always have good comraderie with each other and it kind of translates onto the basketball floor."

And being in a tough district, having that comraderie is going to come in handy.

"I think whoever makes it out of the district can make a pretty good run in the playoffs this year," says Katona.

"Our main goal is to capture the conference and capture a district final," said Yohe. "To be able to do whatever else besides that, we'll have to wait and see about that."

"We've had a lot of accomplishments but also a lot of tough losses," said Holmgren. "This year, we're just looking for more success and we're going to go into every game trying our hardest to get the best result out of everything and we're going to leave everything on the court every game."

The Hematites tip-off their season tonight as they travel to Gladstone.
