Last week:  The Wildcats visited Northwood University and used a 15-2 run in the second half, plus season highs from both senior Jordan Perez (Greendale, Wis.) and sophomore Will Carius (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) to come back and defeat Northwood University 80-72.  On Saturday, the team travelled to Saginaw Valley State University, but hot shooting from the Cardinals was too much to overcome as NMU fell 92-66.

New season high for Perez: Perez scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds in Thursday's come from behind victory over the Timberwolves for new new season highs.  Finishing eight of ten from the field, the eight makes were also a season high for him.  For his career, Perez scored 28 points against Findlay University in 2015. He snagged 12 rebounds against SVSU last season for a career-best.

Carius posts a new season high: Carius also notched 22 points Thursday, scoring a season-best eight baskets.  The 22 points Thursday was the second time in the past four games where Carius achieved over 20 points, scoring 21 points last week against Purdue University Northwest.  In the past four games, Carius is averaging a team-high 18.3 points per game and has made 20 of 24 free throws while shooting 53% from the field and 41% from the three-point line.

Another 20-point game for Johnson: Junior Isaiah Johnson (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) scored 20 points against SVSU Saturday, marking his eighth game this season reaching 20 points.  Averaging 17.8 points per game this year, he has averaged 28 points against the Cardinals this season. His season and career-best output came in the team's 83-74 victory at Wayne State University, scoring 30 points.  The team's leading scorer, he has posted double-digits in 20 games this year.

Playoffs are clinched:  As a result of their victory over NU, the Wildcats clinched a spot in the GLIAC Tournament.  The first round of the playoffs will be played Wednesday, February 28.  The top four teams will host the first round of the tournament.  NMU is currently tied with Wayne State University for third place in the league and is one game ahead of Michigan Technological University, who is ranked fifth entering this week.  Ferris State has already secured a home first round matchup, while LSSU is just one game ahead of the Wildcats for second place. The tournament appearance will be the first one for NMU's men's basketball since 2007.

NMU versus LSSU:  Earlier this season, NMU took a lead into halftime but ended up falling to the Lakers.  Overall, the Wildcats hold a 63-39 all-time advantage, but have struggled of late, falling in the past 10 matchups with LSSU.

NMU versus FSU:  A late rally for NMU came up just short as the Wildcats fell to the GLIAC-leading Bulldogs 74-71.  FSU is currently ranked #3 in the country and are on a 13-game winning streak
