MARQUETTE, Mich. — The Northern Michigan lacrosse team takes it first road trip in program history this week.
Friday, March 17...Lacrosse at Georgian Court, 3 p.m.
Sunday, March 19...Lacrosse at Shepherd, 11 a.m.
The lacrosse team is about to embark on a nine-game road swing. The Wildcats last played on March 7 at the Superior Dome. Jordan Hanner netted six goals, the most by a Wildcat to date, but Concordia-St. Paul used a five-goal surge to pull out a 14-8 victory.
Shelby Klotz recorded two goals in the loss to the Golden Bears, bringing her season total to 12. Hanner is currently second on the team with nine strikes. Both rank in the GLIAC's top 10 in this statistical category, with Klotz in a tie for fifth and Hanner in a tie for 10th.
Members of the Nordic skiing, swimming & diving and track & field teams competed at NCAA Championships last week.
The swimming & diving teams wrapped up their 2016-17 campaign at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships on March 8-11. Rachel Helm became the first Wildcat swimmer since 1999 to be crowned a national champion, winning the 100 backstroke with a school-record time of 53.79. Helm, also an All-American in the 200 backstroke, was one of three Northern Michigan All-Americans, joining Lajos Budai (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke), Renars Bundzis (200 backstroke) and Angela Probstfeld (3-meter dive).
The Nordic skiing teams raced at the NCAA Skiing Championships on March 9 and 11. Vivian Hett (5K classic), Adam Martin (10K classic, 20K freestyle) and Fredrik Schwencke (10K classic) earned All-American honors. As a combined team, the Wildcats finished eighth. They were the only team that competed in one discipline to place in the top 10.
Martin, who will graduate as a four-time All-American, became Northern Michigan's first NCAA Elite 90 award winner on March 7. More information about Martin's prestigious award can be viewed here.
Kameron Burmeister, Ine Mylle and Jasmine Williams represented the track & field team at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 9 and 11. Williams (weight throw) and Burmeister (5,000-meter run) captured All-American accolades. Both are now two-time All-Americans.
Voting for the 2016-17 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate hockey ends on March 28. Wildcat defenseman Brock Maschmeyer was selected as one of 10 finalists for this award, which honors NCAA Division I seniors who have notable achievements in four areas—community, classroom, character and competition.
