MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University U.S. Olympic Training Site Greco-Roman wrestling team entered its 18th season last week. This semester’s roster includes 17 new additions for a total of 54 athletes.

The largest recruiting class in Coach Rob Hermann’s tenure boasts of athletes from 10 different states, and one from Japan.

“I feel that coach Andy Bisek has really added to our recruiting efforts,” Hermann said. “Having a big mix of new athletes and veterans is going to help everyone get better. It is nice to see wrestlers choosing the Greco-Roman style as their future.”

One of those choosing to concentrate on Greco is Calvin Germinaro of Anoka, Minn.

“I always liked the Greco-Roman style and planned on training in Greco on the side while wrestling for the University of Minnesota,” said Germinaro. “Once I spoke with the NMU coaches and learned that I could specialize in Greco and earn a degree, I knew I wanted to come to Northern Michigan University.”

“NMU has always been the place to go to wrestle Greco while pursuing an education,” added coach Bisek. “Our goal is that four years from now all of these guys leave as champions on the mat and with a diploma.” For more information on the NMU-OTS program, visit www.nmu.edu/ots or contact resident coach Rob Hermann at 906-227-2869 or rhermann@nmu.edu.
