MANITOWOC (WFRV) — A lakeshore community is celebrating its historic ties to the Navy’s submarine fleet.

A View from the Periscope is on display at the Rahr-West Art Museum in Manitowoc.  It features a collection of art, gathered by the U.S. Navy, that depicts submarines and the men who man them through the 20th century.

“The Navy, one of the things they took into account, was that we are a great maritime location, and we have this heritage of ship building, including the building of submarines during World War II, so they were ecstatic to have the exhibit in this place,” Rahr-West Art Museum executive director Greg Vadney said.

The exhibit runs through September.  It also coincides with the city’s first SUBFEST, celebrating the city’s submarine building history.  SUBFEST is July 10-12.
