(MARQUETTE) –UP Health System Market President James Bogan announced today that W. Trent Crable, MBA, has been appointed to serve as chief executive officer (CEO) for UP Health System – Marquette, effective October 19. Crable comes to Marquette from Northside Medical Center in Youngstown, Ohio, where he served as CEO since August 2014.
“After conducting a nationwide search, we are delighted to introduce Trent to the Marquette community and the entire UP region,” Bogan said. “Trent is a veteran hospital administrator who brings decades of proven executive leadership experience and achievement to UP Health System – Marquette. We are confident his strong and steady leadership qualities are the right fit for both our hospital and our community.”
Born in Shelby, Michigan, Crable is excited to return to his roots.  The results-oriented leader brings more than 30 years of healthcare administration experience to UP Health System – Marquette. Prior to serving as CEO of Northside Medical Center, from 2012 to 2014, he served as executive vice president and chief operating officer (COO) at The Brooklyn Hospital Center in Brooklyn, New York. He also served as COO and later CEO at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C., from 2005 to 2011.
Previously in his career, Crable served in an executive capacity at University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama; Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in Richmond, Virginia; and The Retreat Health System also in Richmond, Virginia.
“It is a privilege to have the opportunity to lead UP Health System – Marquette into the future. I’m eager to get to know the hospital’s medical staff and all of their fine employees,” Crable said. “And as we continue with anticipation toward breaking ground next spring on a new hospital campus, I will be especially sensitive to gaining input from the community while I get to know the people of the Upper Peninsula.”
A certified public accountant, Crable earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from West Chester University in West Chester, Pennsylvania.  In 2012, he was invited to return to his alma mater and serve as the undergraduate commencement speaker.  Crable also earned an MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.
Crable and his wife, Laura, plan to reside in Marquette with their two children. He replaces Bogan who has served as interim CEO of the hospital since the departure of former UP Health System – Marquette CEO Ed Banos in June.
