GWINN — K.I.Sawyer Air Force Base closed almost 23 years ago, but those who served or lived there continue to get together.
In fact, a reunion is taking place this weekend for the 62nd and 87th Fighter Interceptor Squadrons. Tomorrow, a group from the 87th Fighter Training Squadron from Laughlin Air Force Base in Texas will be arriving at about 10 a.m. tomorrow in T-38A “Talons.”
Lani Duquette, Reunion Coordinator, and Sawyer veteran, says, “The last time the crew got together here at Sawyer was about three years ago and we like to stay in touch and everbody wanted to come back to K.I. Sawyer. Alumni always likes to get together.”
The reunion continues with a golf outing, squadrom photos and a ‘meet and greet’ featuring the “The Centennial of the 87th Fighter Squadron.”
Then Sunday is the 5th annual Discover Sawyer Family Fun Day — at the general aviation ramp at Sawyer International Airport.
