MARQUETTE, Mich.—Northern Michigan University Nordic Skiing will host the Ishpeming SuperTour and NCAA Regionals this weekend in what will be their final event of the regular season. The races will take place Saturday and Sunday at the Al Quaal Recreation Area in Ishpeming, Michigan.
The Wildcats are fresh off a pair of team titles and three individual crowns at the Central Collegiate Ski Association Conference Championships over the weekend. The women took the top spot with a perfect combined score of 222 points for the weekend. The men also earned the team championship with 213 points after the two-day event.
Senior Vivian Hett (Burnsville, Minnesota) earned the women’s classic five-kilometer title on Saturday. She took the top spot with a time of 15 minutes. 49.20 seconds, defeating the field by more than 30 seconds. NMU swept the top-five in the event.
In the men’s 10-kilometer classic race, junior Ian Torchia (Rochester, Minnesota) was the first to finish with a time of 27:28.90. The Wildcats earned a perfect score in the race with junior Leo Hipp (Forest Lake, Minnesota) and sophomore Mathias Aas-Rolid (Redalen, Norway) finishing second and third.
Junior Nicole Schneider (Plymouth, Minnesota) earned the top spot in the women’s 15-kilometer freestyle race on Sunday. Schneider’s time of 44:59.80 was two seconds better than Hett who was runner-up.
Freestyle races the Ispeming SuperTour and NCAA Regionals will take place on Saturday with Classic races to follow on Sunday. The start time on both days is slated for 10 a.m.
The Wildcats will get some time off after this weekend to prepare for the NCAA Championships in Steamboat Springs, Colorado to be held March 8 and 10. The selections for the NCAA Championships will be announced February 26 at 8 p.m. on NCAA.com.
