ALTRAN not operating after major fire

News
ALTRAN is not operating Thursday after a major fire broke out Wednesday night at the ALTRAN bus garage.

First responders were paged out at about 9:30 P.M. to 530 East Munising Ave. to the depot where ALTRAN stores its buses. Multiple departments and emergency personnel found heavy smoke coming out of all sides of the roof.

Responders were told there were about 16 buses at the site, and say they were able to get most of them out. Some of the buses have heavy damage, as well as the building but the extent of the damages are unknown at this time. The cause of the fire has not been determined yet and is still under investigation, as well. Officials say there were no injuries.

Firefighters and other responders battled the blazes for nearly ten hours until 7:30 Thursday morning in cold weather conditions.

ALTRAN hopes to be up and running as soon as possible.

Assisting on the scene were Rock River Township Fire Department, Munising Township Fire Department, Au Train Township Fire Department, Alger County EMS, Munising City Police Department, Michigan State Police and Alger County Sheriff’s Department.
