MARQUETTE — A fundraiser was held by the American Legion Post 44 in Marquette Tuesday night. It was a spaghetti dinner where all proceeds will go towards the Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Relief Services.
Leonita Schweigert, Captain of the Hancock Salvation Army, explained, “So right now today, we are still helping people with the flood clean-up kits…food, drinking water. Anything that they might need that they just cannot find anymore…shoes, socks, toiletries…”
So far the Salvation Army has provided nearly 4,000 meals between victims, volunteers, and first responders. And that’s why the spaghetti dinner was organized, for those who wanted to help but maybe couldn’t make it to the copper country to help with hands on work.
Erica Roose McCone, Legion member and coordinator of the dinner shared, “When you’re raised in a small town, the need for others is so evident. And I saw all the great fundraisers coming in the Copper Country, and it was the perfect chance to organize one in Marquette County because people not even
