Appleton, Wis. (WFRV) –
Appleton Police say a pedestrian was killed Monday afternoon after being struck by a semi truck.
The accident happened between Meade and Ballard on Northland Ave (Hwy OO) just after 4:00.
The man, who police say has ties to Appleton, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the semi-truck and trailer, a 50 year-old male from the Stevens Point area, was not injured in the crash. The vehicle is owned by a Stevens Point company. The driver was allowed to leave after an interview with investigators.
Appleton Police say they are trying to figure out why the man was in the roadway.
“At this time our investigation is in its preliminary stages,” says Officer Dave Lund. “It will take us some time to determine why the individual was at his point. It’s not an intersection, so not a place that you would normally expect someone to try to cross the road.”
