Celebrating Christmas in Christmas

CHRISTMAS – With Christmas exactly one week away, many of us are still getting our shopping done.

Situated in between Munising and Marquette on M-28 is a town where it’s Christmas all year round.

“There’s big signs; you know you’re in Christmas when you’re here,” said Michelle Ellis, General Manager of the White Pine Lodge. “We have wreaths and garland up year round.”

With a population of about 1100 people, Christmas, Michigan may not seem big. But the spirit of its people makes up for it.

“Once they see Christmas on the map or pass through, they see Santa and they have to stop and investigate and check it out,” said Sharon Tesch, Owner of Santa’s Workshop.

Ornaments, stockings, gifts and everything else you or Santa might need can be found here. And if you’re looking for Santa, it’s easy to find him as he’s standing just outside his very own workshop. There’s even one special attraction that keeps bringing people back.

“What people are looking for when we have people drive here from far away is to get a Christmas stamp on their Christmas cards so their Christmas cards are mailed from Christmas, Michigan,” said Ellis.

And for the few who call this town home, there’s just a certain charm about it.

“It’s imaginative,” said Ellis. “I think it’s something that we keep the spirit alive of Christmas all year long. Like I said, it’s magical.”
