Celebrity Golf Tournament to help Beacon House

The weather is looking better just in time for the 4th annual U.P Celebrity Golf Outing.

The event raises money for the Beacon House, the hospitality house of Upper Peninsula, for people who need medical care in the Marquette area.

It costs more than 350 thousand dollars to keep the Beacon House open every year.

Since the facility opened 12 years ago, there have been more than 150,000 guest night stays.

The Beacon House is one of the largest hospitality houses and raising money is a major undertaking.

Mary Tavernini Dowling, CEO of U.P. Beacon House, said, “We are completely funded by events like this so we are so excited that it’s going to be such a success.”

Rob Rubick, former Lions player, said, “It makes you feel good. You know you’re doing something worthwhile and it may be something that one of my family members could benefit from someday, as well.”

Local 3’s Pete Francis has more on a golf clinic today that helped some of the golfers get familiar with the course. Check our Sports section for more.
