Demolition of local landmark begins in Negaunee

News

NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WJMN) – The demolition of a downtown Negaunee landmark has begun.

It started Wednesday on the ‘Kirkwood Building’ after it was deemed a hazard to the community.

City officials wanted to demolish the building in May after a portion of the roof caved in.

The structure of the building has been a concern throughout the summer.

There are no plans for what’s next when the project is complete.
