MARQUETTE – Derek James Blemke will spend the next 20-40 years in prison for stabbing 21-year-old Brandon Allen LaFavre to death in June 2016.
Blemke, originally charged with Open Murder, plead no-contest to second degree murder in August. He was facing up to life in prison.
Blemke was arrested in the early morning hours of June 24, 2016. Marquette City Police reported at the time that officers were dispatched to the apartment at 2050 Wright Street on a report of a stabbing incident.
Investigation revealed that Blemke stabbed LaFavre 24 times while he slept.
Blemke received credit for 479 days served since the killing.
