MECAN, Wis. – An Escanaba woman is dead after the motorcycle she was a passenger on crashed while avoiding a deer in Mecan, Wisconsin.

According to a release from the Marquette County (WI) Sheriff’s Office it happened just after 4:00 PM Tuesday afternoon. The release says the motorcycle, driven by Ronald Sinnaeve, 44, of Brampton, was traveling south on County Highway C when the deer entered his path. Sinnave attempted to avoid the deer and ended up sliding the motorcycle into the ground and ditch.

Sinnaeve told Sheriff’s Deputies that the motorcycle and his passenger, 44-year-old Escanaba resident Jennifer Vermote, then went down an embankment. Authorities say Vermote was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sinnave told deputies that he and Vermote were both wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

The crash is being investigated by the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office and Marquette County Coroner’s Office.
