ISHPEMING, MI – Up to 220 families were served and provided with food today in Ishpeming. Feeding America of West Michigan made the trip from Grand Rapids, feeding over 800 people altogether. Plenty of volunteers were standing by, including students from Ishpeming High School, packing food for a good cause.
“It means a lot, helping out all of these people,” said Kadin Fox, senior from Ishpeming High School. “We’ve got a big line and it really feels nice when you help someone. That’s just what we’re going for, I guess.”
The Feeding America Food Pantry truck visits the U.P. on the first Thursday of every month. About 15,000 pounds of food was distributed today alone. Last year, Feeding America of West Michigan distributed 27.6 million pounds of food, equivalent to 22 million meals.
