Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointments, reappointments

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced nine appointments and reappointments to multiple boards and commissions.

“I thank this group of people for their willingness to serve our state,” Snyder said.

Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards

Appointment:

Matthew Saxton, of Battle Creek, is the Calhoun County Sheriff and has served as a law enforcement officer for the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office for nearly 25 years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Lake Superior State University and attended the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety School of Police Staff and Command, as well as the FBI National Academy. He will serve as a nominee of the Michigan Sheriff’s Association and will fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Scott Stephenson.

Saxton will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2021 and is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate. 

Michigan Board of Respiratory Care

Appointment:

Elizabeth Weir, of Lansing, is the director of scheduling for Gov. Rick Snyder. She holds a dual bachelor’s degree in political science and psychology from Michigan State University. She will represent the general public and replace Beverly Cherwinski.

Weir will serve a four-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2022 and is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

State Tax Commission

Appointment:

Nick Khouri, of Plymouth, is state Treasurer of Michigan under Gov. Rick Snyder. He previously worked at DTE Energy as senior vice president and treasurer. Khouri earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Michigan and master’s degree in economics from Michigan State University. He will represent individuals with experience with taxation and government and replace Doug Roberts.

Khouri will serve a four-year term commencing Dec. 31, 2018, and expiring Dec. 27, 2022. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate. Khouri will also serve as chair for a term expiring at the pleasure of the Governor.

Michigan Board of Counseling

Appointment:

Stephen Craig, of Grand Rapids, is a clinical supervisor and counselor for River City Psychological Services. He also serves as a professor and unit director of the counselor education program for Western Michigan University. Craig holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Texas Tech University, a master’s degree in community counseling from Texas A&M University at Commerce, and a Ph.D. in counseling and student services from the University of North Texas. He will represent individuals engaged primarily in providing counseling techniques, behavior modification techniques, or preventive techniques to clients. He will fill a vacancy created by the resignation of LuAnn Sawdey Roberts.

Craig will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring June 30, 2021 and is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

Board of Nursing Home Administrators

Appointment:

Helen Hartwell, of Lansing, is the assistant director of scheduling for Gov. Rick Snyder. She holds a bachelor’s in business administration from Davenport University and a child development associate certificate from the CDA Council in Washington, D.C. She will represent the general public and replace Bridget Looby.

Hartwell will serve a four-year term expiring June 30, 2022 and is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

Mackinac Bridge Authority

Appointment:

Tricia Kinley, of Lansing, is the external affairs director for Gov. Rick Snyder. She previously worked as the Senior Director of Tax and Regulatory Reform for the Michigan Chamber of Commerce. Kinley earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from Ohio University. She will represent Republicans and fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Michael Zimmer.

Kinley will serve the remainder of a six-year term expiring June 30, 2024 and is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

Michigan Board of Chiropractic

Appointment:

Beau Taylor, of Sterling Heights, is the executive director for the Public Lighting Authority of Detroit and previously served as director and administrator in the Public Lighting Department for the city of Detroit. He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Michigan State University and a Master of Business Administration from New York University Stern School of Business. He will represent the general public and fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Lanette VanWagenen.

Taylor will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2021 and is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

Michigan Board of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery

Appointment:

Deborah Maciolek, of Macomb, is a recruiting administrator for Ciber, Inc., owner/photographer of Debography Photography, and is in marketing and sales for Pirate and Princess Condo. Maciolek attended Wayne State University and holds a certificate in photographic arts from Macomb Community College. She will represent the general public and fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Frank Peterson.

Maciolek will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring June 30, 2021 and is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

Michigan Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery

Appointment:

Stacey Beltz, of Troy, is the physician and owner of Troy Family Practice, PLLC, and serves on staff at William Beaumont Hospital in Troy. She holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Michigan and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She will represent physicians and replace Jennifer Cory Behler.

Beltz will serve a four-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2022 and is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

Michigan Finance Authority Board of Directors

Appointments:

Murray Wikol, of Bloomfield Hills, is President of ProVisions, LLC, a full-service developer, financier, and owner of commercial, health care, and public sector real estate. He earned his bachelor’s degree in international economics from the University of Michigan, master’s degree in industrial and operating engineering from the University of Michigan, and master’s degree in business administration from Stanford University. He will represent Democrats and residents of the state with experience in housing and community development issues or relating to public finance.

Anna Heaton, of Lansing, is the vice president of marketing and communications at Business Leaders for Michigan. She previously served as press secretary for Gov. Snyder and deputy press secretary in the Michigan House of Representatives. Heaton earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology and political science from Western Michigan University. She will represent Independents and residents of the state and replace JulieAnn Karkosak.

Reappointment:

Timothy Hoffman, of Douglas, is the executive director of regulatory affairs at Consumers Energy Company. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political economy and law degree from University of Toledo Law School. He will continue to represent Republicans and individuals with experience in education issues, including but not limited to, issues related to public school district, public community colleges, or public universities or relating to public finance.

Members will serve four-year terms expiring Sept. 30, 2022 and are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
