GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Bird lovers in our area have a chance to take part in a world wide effort to help scientists collect data on wild birds.

It’s called the Great Backyard Bird Count. It begins Friday, Feb. 13 and runs through Monday Feb. 16.

The aim of the bird count is to help scientists create an annual snapshot of the distribution and abundance of birds.

Ben Nelson, Assistant Director at Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary says getting involved is easy.

“15 minutes of observations, at your bird feeder in your backyard or here at the wildlife sanctuary,” he says, “you record what you see, and then you upload it to your database and they use that information then to determine what’s going on with our different bird populations around the world.”
