Hand grenade found in Gogebic County

The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office received a report at approxmiately 2:25pm on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, in reference to a possible hand grenade that was found near the Powdermill Creek at Eli Avenue in Bessemer.

Deputies responded and did find what appeared to be an old hand grenade that had been submerged for some time. The area was closed to traffic for safety and the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad in Grayling was contacted for assistance.

The MSP Bomb Squad did respond to Bessemer and the grenade was rendered safe.

The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad, Gogebic County Road Commission, Central Dispatch, and Beacon Ambulance for their assistance in this incident.
