NEGAUNEE — The Heikki Lunta festival is back this year with a weekend full of activities.
The Upper Peninsula Luge Club puts on the event along with businesses in downtown Negaunee. Many restaurants are offering specials in honor of the festival and there are things to do for all ages. Including a crowd favorite, the ‘Yooper Feats of Strength’.
Tammy Wills, Event Coordinator, Heikki Lunta, explains, “It celebrates our Finnish heritage and the fact that we have SISU. You know, it’s cold here and to survive the winter times you have to be light-hearted and you have to laugh it off and so I think this festival helps people do that. There’s activities inside all weekend; I know it’s supposed to be a chilly weekend but certainly there will be enough for people to do indoors or to be able to do stuff outside and then pop indoors to warm up and come back out and enjoy the festivities.”
The festival continues until midnight tonight and starts again tomorrow, Saturday, at 9 a.m.
