ISHPEMING– The City of Ishpeming Fire Department is one step closer to receiving a new fire truck. In a recent vote, residents of the city voted in favor of issuing the $850,000 bonds for the new truck.

Tonight, the city council was asked to approve the bonds. The council unanimously agreed to authorizing the bonds.

Mark Slown, Ishpeming City Manager says, “We have two fire trucks right now but one is over 20 years old and the other is 12 years old and neither of them have modern equipment that we need to fight a fire to keep people and the firefighters safe. The voters approved it so we’re going to go ahead and do it.”

Next step is to sell the bonds on the open market in October. Once they are sold, they can purchase the new fire truck.
