MARQUETTE – Local police and fire departments are reminding the public to drive cautiously through flooded roads.
After the June 17 storm that swept through Houghton County and portions of the western U.P., police and fire are asking the public to practice safety measures in the event of flash flooding. The conditions can be a hazard to not only yourself but your vehicle, too.
“It actually takes not a significant amount of water moving at pace to sweep a car or a person’s feet out from underneath them and move them along,” said Captain Jeff Green, Marquette City Fire Department. “Really the best bet is to just stay away from those areas, stay home, stay put; high ground.”
Law officials also say preparation can be the difference between life and death, such as packing a first aid kit and supplies.
