ISHPEMING — Water meter checks happen often for home owners, but what if those meters haven’t been read in months?

Ashley Cody found a pipe that broke in the crawl space of her home. The water went into a drain and her basement was not impacted. But now, she’s faced with an eighteen thousand dollar water bill.

The issue was addressed tonight at the Ishpeming City Council meeting.

Ashley Cody, Ishpeming Resident said, “I feel like tonight we were hopeful for a resolution. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. But, they made it a point to come in and reach out to us and let us know that we are going to be able to sit down to discuss further the importance of this catastrophic water loss and our situation.”

The total water loss was over a million gallons.

Ishpeming City Council members agreed to set up a meeting with the Cody family and help figure out how to prevent this from happening in the future.

It’s not clear yet exactly how much the family will have to pay.
