ESCANABA– The Upper Peninsula Honor Flight is a once in lifetime trip for one day visiting memorials dedicated to wars the veterans served in. Each veteran can bring one guardian, but there’s a way to still be part of the trip while staying in the Upper Peninsula.
“We are going to be having the Honor Flight Mission Tracker here in the Seasons Lounge,” said Andrew Rasch, General Manager, Quality Inn and Suites of Escanaba. “Where pretty much on a 187 inch screen they’re going to be able to watch the Facebook feeds that are coming in. As well as see information about the various monuments and activities that’s going on for the veterans that are in Washington so they can feel as if they’re more part of it.”
Besides the Quality Inn and Suites in Escanaba, it will also be streamed at the Peter White Public Library in Marquette and the Forsyth Township Public Library and anyone is welcome to stop by throughtout the day and check it out.
“Pretty much the Mission Tracker allows the people who may be aren’t so tech saavy, don’t have to be looking at their cell phones or having people gathered around them gets to sit their and watch it,” said Rasch.
Besides the tracker, the Quality Inn and Suites is the host to the banquet held for the veterans the night before the flight and where the veterans can stay for the night.
“We love this group,” said Rasch. “They’re pretty much the favorite of my entire staff. Everytime they come around, I have my entire team volunteering to come in and work it just because they love veterans, they love the organization, they love saying thank you to these people that did so much for us.”
Another way you can be involved is attending the welcome home celebration for the veterans Wednesday night at the Delta County Airport. People can start arriving at 7 and plane is scheduled to land around 8:30.
