MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MICH. Detectives from the Michigan State Police (MSP) St. Ignace Post are working to identify human remains discovered when troopers responded to a burning vehicle in Mackinac County’s Marquette Township on Tuesday, July 10.
Troopers were called to East Simmons Road around 6 a.m. following reports of a vehicle fully engulfed in flames in the middle of the road. The remains were discovered once the fire was extinguished.
Dental records and/or DNA testing will be used to help determine identity.
The cause of the fire, and the cause and manner of death of the individual are under investigation. If you have information about this incident, you are urged to contact the St. Ignace Post at 906-643-7582.
Troopers were assisted by the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Department and the Pickford Fire Department.
