IRON MOUNTAIN– First National Bank & Trust and The Mariucci Family Foundation are gearing up for its seventh annual Iron Mountain Road and Trail Half Marathon on September 15th.

“We have a half marathon event for participants to sign up for. If you don’t want to do the whole half marathon there is a relay which consists of three people,” said Sandy Petroff, Assistant Vice President, First National Bank and Trust. “So you’re splitting up that 13.1 miles into three different legs.”

The race starts at 8:00 a.m. central. If you don’t want to run that’s okay too. Walkers can start the half marathon 7:00 a.m. There’s also an event for kids and people who would like to participate in a shorter distance.

“In the past six years we have had the two mile Mini Moochathon that we had set up so we make it Steve Mariucci, the actual sponsor for that one. Now this year we’re changing that to a 5k which is 3.1 miles,” said Petroff.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the Dickinson County Cancer Unit Loan Closet.

“Our main concern is really for our cancer patients and we provide medical equipment which includes; lift chairs, walkers, commodes, wheelchairs, crutches, canes, four-wheel walkers, shower chairs,” said Diane Schabo, President, Dickinson County Cancer Unit Loan Closet.

The loan closet also provides financial assistance and as a non-profit that can be an expensive task so they rely on donations.

“We are all volunteers,” said Schabo. “There’s 26 of us. Out of what I’d say comes in, I would guess 97% at least goes back out to the public.”

Registration ends at 6/5 central on Friday September 14th. For more information and to register, click here.
