HOUGHTON — Michigan Technological University played host to a full-scale disaster exercise for the community to participate in Thursday.
The incident involved a gas truck and a few passenger vehicles.
It was a chance for medical professionals, first responders and others to practice so they’re ready if the real thing ever happens.
Jonathan Stone, Michigan Tech EMS Director, Exercise Facilitator said, “This is the fourth or fifth exercise of this significance that we’ve hosted here at Michigan Tech. And then it gives us an opportunity as the tech community to really provide a training and an experience for all the responding agencies around that we rely on.”
More than 50 volunteers participated as victims and responders. There was a mock evacuation and even a pretend press conference.
