MUNISING – The Munising middle school robotics team will be taking a trip to the state championship this weekend.

The robotics team made an appearance at the high school boys basketball game Friday night. The Electro Stangs recently took first place at the U.P. First Tech Challenge qualifying tournament in Houghton.

“As a coach, the hardest thing for me is finding enough to keep them all going because they get stuff done so fast that I can’t keep them all busy,” said Bill Cornish, coach of the Electro Stangs. “They’re a great bunch of kids and they’re learning a ton. The skills that these kids are learning, they can use this on a resume and say I know how to troubleshoot and I know how to redesign.”

There are 429 robotics teams across Michigan, 12 of which are in the U.P. The Electro Stangs head downstate this weekend to Battle Creek where they will compete in the state championship.
