MARQUETTE– The Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program (MFMRP) has announced Brian Waite, MD, as their new director. Dr. Waite has had nine years of experience working at MFMRP as an assistant director. For three of those years he was a hospitalist faculty physician.
Dr. Waite officially stepped into the role June 5, 2017.
“Dr. Waite brings a lot to the table,” said his predecessor, Stuart Johnson, DO, MSU College of Human Medicine UP Region Chief Executive Officer and Community Assistant Dean, “His experience as a family physician on Whidbey Island in Washington followed by his role as a faculty member of our residency program has prepared him for this opportunity. He knows what a resident needs to learn to become the competent advocate for health that we all need, while treating individuals who have medical and emotional challenges with skill and compassion.”
“He has a great team of faculty, staff, and residents that will help him with the success of the program,” added Dr. Johnson, “In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Waite will help develop the tailored training each resident receives.”
“I look forward to the challenges this new position brings,” said Dr. Waite, “I must thank Dr. Johnson for all his hard work while he was the director, it makes it very easy for me to step into the role. I hope I can continue to build on the improvements in patient care and resident education we have made so far. Marquette is truly a special place for many reasons, and that includes our Family Medicine Residency Program.”
Dr. Waite received his medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine. As a medical student he participated in the WAMI (Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho) rural medicine track. Dr. Waite graduated from the Marquette
Family Medicine Residency Program in 1999. He and his wife reside in Marquette with their two daughters.
