MARQUETTE, MI  –  A new brand name and renewed mission to serve the financial needs of everyone in the community is creating enormous positive energy for Embers Credit Union. The 50-person team at Embers has been serving the Marquette community for more than 65 years, most recently as Upper Peninsula Catholic Credit Union. The credit union unveiled its new name last December.

The excitement continues to build as Embers announces the addition of Upper Michigan Community Credit Union (UMCCU) to the Embers Family. UMCCU’s Munising and Trenary locations will join three Embers branches in Marquette and Negaunee. Embers is now serving the community and their members with a fresh new approach to banking at five locations.

“Embers is eager to move beyond the traditional stereotype of credit unions as a group of members who belong to a select association,” says Tom Blake, CEO of Embers Credit Union. “That is far from what Embers is about. We welcome everyone. We help people who are just starting their careers and people who are well established.  Most important, we serve the very core of what we all have in common — we all want to enjoy our lives to the fullest.  Embers helps all people make the most of where they are right now.  That’s what we mean when we say ‘Live it UP.’”,

Blake goes on to explain that the new brand name brings a fresh vision and rejuvenated attitude to the long-serving staff at every Embers location. “Along with serving our loyal senior members, we’re expanding our focus to reach young people with big dreams,” says Blake. “Attracting a new generation of credit union members will benefit our current members as well. They’ll allow us to offer expanded products and services while maintaining the high deposit rates, low loan rates, and low fees that we’re known for.”

Embers Credit Union remains fully committed to helping the Upper Peninsula community grow and thrive. The leadership and staff, which has not changed, are local, so they understand the lifestyle and opportunities of people living in the U.P.  Embers is dedicated to helping small and emerging businesses with competitive rates and outstanding service. They’re also committed to helping young people who are stepping out on their own for the first time. Milestones like buying a first car, graduating from college, purchasing a first home or having a child all present financial challenges. Embers’ personalized, friendly service coupled with well-established back end resources and processes offers individuals and businesses a chance to realize their dreams and reach their financial goals.

All UMCCU branches will close on June 1 for the turnover, and will reopen on Monday, June 3 as Embers Credit Union with the same staff in place. Members will see little immediate change. Accounts will be automatically transferred, automatic transactions will continue, and members may use their current checks until they run out. Members should have received new debit cards by mid-May. On June 2, members may sign up for online banking. The biggest change current UMCCU members will experience is access to more locations, more ATMs, more resources, and a wider range of products and services.
