Room at the Inn seeking volunteers for meal delivery

North Central UP

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WJMN) – Room at the Inn is looking for volunteers to help with meal delivery to COVID-19 positive guests.

Nick Emmendorfer, executive director of Room at the Inn, says there are two staff members with COVID-19 along with 10 guests. He says 2 guests presumptively have COVID-19. This is their first outbreak since the pandemic started.

“We knew it would come, we’re prepared with PPE equipment, we’re social distancing to the best of our ability and sanitizing the heck out of every surface that we can,” said Emmendorfer. “But right now it’s a matter of mitigating the issue and then continuing our services to make sure that people who need homelessness services shelter, food, basic needs met we want to make sure that we can continue to offer that as the outbreak spreads through marquette county.”

He says they have collaborated with the Marquette County Health Department to quarantine positive and presumptively positive guests at local hotels.

“We need people to help deliver meals to people who are quarantined in hotels and we need people to help deliver meals to The Warming Center and then we also need our daily volunteer needs,” said Emmendorfer. “However, I would caveat that with saying anyone who would like to volunteer at The Warming Center, know that we don’t have any active cases right now but we would prefer people who have already had COVID and recovered if their willing to come volunteer and we promise we will make it as safe of a volunteering experience as humanly possible.”

They sent the following message to volunteers:
