Several people voiced their concerns tonight about a proposal the Negaunee Township Planning Commission is considering.

Kona Ridge Mining wants to expand work that’s being done at a gravel pit on County Road 510.

But people who live or own land in the area are worried about the impact on nearby dams, property values as well as the noise level among other things.

Nick Leach is the community planner and zoning administrator for Negaunee Township. He says, “In their 2013 application they had no proposed blasting but this application does include blasting into the rock face to have crushable aggregate.”

No decision was made because the board did not have quorum.

There will be another meeting to address this issue on June 11 at 5:30 p.m.
