MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers slugger Ryan Braun has tried to reach out and offer a little comfort to an embarrassed fan. During last Friday’s 14-7 win over Houston, a young woman held up a sign that said, “Marry Me, Ryan,” with her phone number. The young woman, who says her name is Robin, later told a reporter from Fox Sports Wisconsin that she thought including the number was a good idea. Maybe not. She was inundated with more than 200 calls and 600 text messages in just a few hours after the sign was flashed on the game broadcast. Braun has a girlfriend, but tried to give Robin a call afterward to say “thanks but no thanks.” With all the callers, however, Robin’s voicemail was full. Braun says the story has taken on a life of its own, though he would be happy for all the attention to pass. The sign has spawned copycats in recent days, including a funny one on Monday night that read, “Ryan, I don’t want to marry you, I just want an autograph.”
