Mobile Office

LANSING, Mich. – Secretary of State Ruth Johnson today announced that she sending the Mobile Office on a tour of 18 college campuses across the state to register students to vote.

“The 3,000-mile 2016 Voter Registration Drive is a great way to give college students easy access to our services, especially registering to vote,” Johnson said. “We’re also happy to answer questions and to assist anyone who needs our any of our services. Please stop by to take care of your Secretary of State business, right on site.”

The deadline to register to vote for the Nov. 8 general election is Oct. 11, the day the tour concludes.

The Mobile Office tour includes stops at 18 different colleges and universities. The tour starts on Sept. 7 at Wayne State University’s Gullen Mall, and continues Sept. 8 at the University of Michigan – Dearborn campus on the University Center patio. Both events run 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In addition to voter registration, the Mobile Office offers all of the services available of a traditional office. Customers can change their address, renew their driver’s license, get their tabs and even join the Michigan Organ Donor Registry. Staff will be available to answer questions about voter identification, absentee ballots, locating a sample ballot and finding their polling place.

“Registering to vote is a vital activity every citizen should complete,” said David Strauss, dean of students at Wayne State University. “We are thrilled to host the Secretary of State Mobile Office to help our students, faculty, and staff take care of all their secretary of state needs, including registering to vote, right here on-campus.”

Johnson said the voter registration drive supplements other efforts to register new voters, including:

• A postcard sent to every 18 year old on their birthday reminding them to register to vote.

• Voter registration opportunities for newly sworn citizens at naturalization ceremonies across the state.

• Asking customers who come in for personal ID or driver’s licenses if they want to register to vote, provided they are U.S. citizens.
