There was an event tonight at NMU teaching people how to win at a job fair.
You should bring several copies of your resume and make sure it’s done right.
Identify your strengths that match with what the employer is looking for.
Dress for success. Be enthusiastic but genuine at the same time.
Many employers are looking for an applicant that is personable, a go-getter and motivated.
Katie Korpi, Assistant Director, NMU Career Services says, “In feedback that we’ve received from employers in the past they’re looking for people who are willing to make a commitment and who have a love for the U.P. Who want to stay in the area and do some cool things.”
She also suggests having an elevator pitch memorized. It’s a concise way of telling people about yourself as well as your career goals.
Another tip is don’t skip a table just because you think it may not apply to you. For example, a hospital may be looking for an I.T. or marketing person.
