An early morning fire caused significant damage to the JB Hunt trucking repair facility in Chocolay Township.
The Chocolay Township Fire Department is reporting that volunteer firefighters were dispatched to the facility just before 4:00 Tuesday morning for reports of black smoke billowing out of the building.
Upon arrival, firefighters determined the incident was indeed a structure fire. They entered the building and found a semi-truck fully engulfed in fire. The semi was immediately extinguished and firefighters began working to contain and knock down the remaining fire.
Officials say the semi was a total loss, but fire damage was otherwise kept to a minimum. However, the building and a second semi suffered “extensive smoke damage.”
The fire is believed to be accidental and the Fire Investigator from the Michigan State Police will be on scene today to help make that determination.
Marquette County dispatch, Sands Twp. Fire, Marquette Twp. Fire, UP Health Systems Marquette and the Marquette City Police all assisted on the scene.
