ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming Police Department, with the help of UPHS-Marquette, has identified the woman found in a field near the Ishpeming football field as 26-year-old Kayla Jean Gilstorff.

Police say the cause and manner of death are still being investigated, but are still asking the public for help in seeking information. Anyone who may have had contact with Kayla after Saturday, July 14, 2018, are asked to call the Ishpeming Police Department at 906-486-4416.

Ishpeming Police Department reports that they are still waiting on lab results from UPHS-Marquette, and results of evidence processed by the MSP Crime Lab.

07/23/18: The Ishpeming Police Department is releasing new information about a woman’s body that was found in a field Friday.

An autopsy was performed today at UPHS-Marquette.

The cause and manner of death still have not been determined. However, nothing suspicious was found during the autopsy.

Police believe they know the identity of the victim. Investigators are still waiting verification on dental records before releasing her name. The family of the woman have been identified.

At 12:42pm, July 20, 2018, the Ishpeming Police Department received a call from a subject riding a mountain bike that he had found a body in the field northwest of the Ishpeming Football Field. 

The body appears to be a female, 20 to 30 years old. The body has not been positively identified as of now and an autopsy will be performed on Monday.

The Ishpeming Police Department contacted the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and a Forensic Anthropologist from NMU to assist on the scene. Marquette County Sheriff Deputies also assisted in the investigation.

The Ishpeming Police Department is continuing their investigation into the identity of the victim and into her cause of death.
