MARQUETTE – The warming weather means Summer tourism in the U.P. is about to kick into high gear.

Today, members of the business, tourism and hospitality sectors met for Uppertunities – an annual U-P centered tourism and business conference. Presenters spoke about different ways to promote the region, hospitality business techniques and Pure Michigan, among other things.

Uppertunities Board Member Anna Dravland says the conference provides great value to the region.

“Any time you can get a group of hospitality members and people who are running businesses in the same kind of community, which the U.P. is a whole community, it’s going to get a shared voice, a shared energy and an enthusiastic drive towards what we’re doing,” she said.

The annual conference is spear headed by the Delta Chamber of Commerce. This was the first year the conference was held in Marquette. The most recent U.P. tourism study found that visitors to the region spent over $1.1 billion while visiting.
