L’ANSE– Back in August, The Upper Peninsula Solar Technical Assistance and Resource Team at Michigan Tech held a public forum in L’Anse about a potential community solar garden in the village.

Community members would buy shares to keep the garden running. Since the forum, UPSTART has provided the community a survey asking if this something they would interested in and tonight the team shared the feedback from the 116 responses they’ve received.

Emily Prehoda, Mich. Tech Environmental and Energy Policy grad student says, “There’s general support for the project. People are really interested in seeing to go forward. There are some major concerns, right. You have transferability, you have the size for the system. Additionally other design components that we’ve really factored into the report, so there are concers there but overall they do want to move forward with the project.”

Moving forward, the group will draft requests from proposals, and start talking with local solar developers. If everything is approved, construction could being in the summer.

The garden would be located near the L’Anse Industrial Park on Lambert Road, right off of  U.S. Highway 41.
