MARQUETTE CO. – The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office is the recipient of a new Lifesaving Traffic Safety Grant.
AAA has awarded the sheriff’s office with the grant worth more than $10,000. The grant will help fund the purchase of a new lifting bag system, which helps first responders in incidents where a passenger is trapped by a vehicle.
“This is going to help our guys save many, many lives,” said Sheriff Greg Zyburt of the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office. “We’ve got the man power and they’ve got the training. A lot of times with equipment we’re pushing it and pushing it, it’s 10 to 20-years-old and stuff gets old. This is replacing essential equipment that our department needs to help the people of Marquette County.”
Last year, the rescue unit was called to 36 personal injury accidents as the primary extrication unit.
