MARQUETTE COUNTY – Marquette County is home to some of the best natural resources and one U.P. businessman is capitalizing on that.

“We’re ready to get this thing opened, we’re chomping at the bit but we want to take our time and do it right,” said Mark Curran, Owner and President of Curran and Company.

For Curran, opening a campground was a dream. What once started as a vision has turned into fulfillment with the soon-to-be opened Rippling River Resort, located right next door to Marquette Mountain. Known for constructing homes and apartments, Curran wanted the challenge of designing a campground.

“Coming out to a good campground gives you that chance to kind of bond again and rejuvenate and relax,” says Curran. “We’re all in the hustle bustle everyday and I know that a lot. You need a spot to go and regain your sanity, frankly.”

With 100 campsites and 14-year-round cabins planned, there’s plenty of materials and elbow grease needed. For Curran, the supplies had to be locally sourced.

“We’re not going out of the area to source stuff,” said Curran. “We have to do some stuff with one of our pipe manufacturers over here for some of our sewer lines and he’s like, ‘Well Mark, you can get it done cheaper from Wisconsin.’ And I’m like, ‘No, we needed to keep it local.'”

Construction may be temporary but the vision is long-lasting.

“I just hope to have fun,” said Curran. “I have my twins who are 9-year-olds, my daughter is 10; I hope in five years they’re running this thing for me a bit. They’ll still be in high school but hopefully they’ll have fun with it and that’s the main goal, is to have an enjoyable project.”

Curran says he hopes to have the Rippling River Resort opened by late summer.
