REACTION TO THE STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS IS BELOW:

Congressman Bergman Statement

Washington – After the State of the Union address by President Donald Trump, Rep. Jack Bergman released the following statement:

“This evening’s State of the Union address highlighted many goals achieved over the course of the past two years. I applaud President Trump for his continued desire to deliver on  promises made to the American people. Reforming the way rural Veterans receive care they’ve earned, ensuring our military is properly funded, progress on building a new Soo Lock, creating an unprecedented atmosphere for job creation and economic success, and reforming our outdated tax code are just a few examples of the results accomplished since January of 2017.

“However, as has been extremely evident over the past few months, Washington is still broken. Tonight, the President called for a spirit of bipartisanship, and that’s what I plan to continue bringing to Congress on behalf of the First District. From border protection and trade policy, to expanding rural connectivity and tackling the rising cost of healthcare – the challenges ahead of us are tall but the solutions to each issue are attainable so long as the State of our Union and the spirit of the American people remain strong.”

Senator Peters Statement

WASHINGTON, DC U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) issued the following statement after President Trump delivered his State of the Union address:

“Moving forward, I hope that Democrats and Republicans will work together on several critical issues: growing our economy in a way that helps Michigan workers and families, repairing and modernizing our crumbling infrastructure, and securing our nation’s Northern and Southern borders in the most efficient and cost-effective way. I’m also committed to helping close the skills gap, a challenge I hear about constantly from businesses across Michigan. That’s why I brought incoming Grand Valley State University President, Dr. Philomena Mantella, who will continue efforts that are so important at our universities to prepare students to succeed in today’s workforce.”

Senator Stabenow Statement

WASHINGTON, D.C.– U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) released a statement following President Trump’s State of the Union Address:

“I am deeply concerned about the direction of our country reflected in the President’s address this evening. We need to comet ogether and find bipartisan solutions on issues important to Michigan like fixing our nation’s infrastructure, lowering the cost of health care, and keeping jobs in the United States.”
