The search for 33-year-old Joseph Waisanen ended early this morning.

Michigan State Police troopers from the Negaunee and Calumet Posts were notified at about 1:20 a.m. of a body found in Powell Township.  The body was found by a camper approximately seven miles north of the intersection of Northwestern Road and AAA Road in Marquette County.

The camper notified authorities after hiking out of a wooded area to a location where cell phone service was available.

Police say next of kin was notified after the body, believed to be the missing L’Anse man, was located about five miles from where his vehicle was found April 18.

No foul play is suspected.  The cause of death and positive identification will be determined by a Medical Examiner at UP Health System Marquette.

Michigan State Police were assisted by Powell Township Fire and Ambulance.  MSP officials also say they ‘thank everybody who helped in the search for Mr. Waisanen.’

Waisanen was last seen March 20 in L’Anse.
