MARQUETTE COUNTY – A Negaunee man has been arraigned after he lead a Marquette County Sheriff’s Deputy on a high-speed chase in the early morning after St. Patrick’s Day.
22-year-old Brock Weaver of Negaunee was charged with one count of fleeing police and one count of operating a vehicle with a Blood Alcohol Content of .17 or more.
The short chase happened at about 1:18 a.m. Saturday, March 18, along County Road 500 (Grove St) and County Road 492 in Marquette Township.
A Marquette County Sheriff’s Office Deputy observed an oncoming Chrysler Sedan near McClellan Ave. while patrolling on County Road 500 in Marquette Township, and as the two vehicles passed each other on County Road 500, the Chrysler sedan, driven by Weaver, crossed the center line and accelerated in the wrong lane.
Deputy Dean Rushford attempted to initiate a traffic stop by activating his emergency lights and siren. Weaver continued to accelerate at speeds of 70 mph and greater while driving in the wrong traffic lane.
Weaver failed to negotiate the stop sign intersection on Co. Rd 500 (Grove St)/ Co Rd 492. The vehicle traveled across Co. Rd 492 striking the embankment, causing the vehicle to become airborne before striking two trees and coming to a stop.
Both airbags were deployed in the crash. Weaver was not wearing a seatbelt. UPHS- EMS and Marquette Township Fire Department to assisted on scene.
