NEGAUNEE — While he’s on his way to his third Olympic games, West Iron County native Nick Baumgartner made a week long trip back home for a mini tour to local schools.
Today’s tour included Marquette and Negaunee schools, where students gave him a very special welcome home.
“It’s cool for me because when I come back home, the support that I get here in the U.P. is way more than I think any other Olympian has. To me, it’s very special,” said Olympic snowboarder Nick Baumgartner. “And when I come and talk to the kids, I like to just use my stories and my situations in life to hopefully inspire them, and give them a little bit of a message.”
Tomorrow, he will head to Iron Mountain, and plans on finishing out the week alma mater, for a pep assembly at West Iron County.
You can watch him compete for an Olympic metal on Valentine’s Day.
