Beginning at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12, McClellan Avenue, from U.S. 41 to Washington Street, will be closed while Oberstar, Inc. works to extend storm sewer across to the west side of McClellan Avenue.

This is a continuation of the final phase of the Marquette Hospital Transportation Improvements Project. The widening of McClellan will provide a designated left turn lane between Washington Street and a point south of the Public Service Garage entrance. In addition, a permanent island will be constructed on Baraga Avenue east of the McClellan Avenue intersection to prohibit any left hand turns onto McClellan Avenue.

This work is expected to last one day. Afterward, the remainder of the work will be completed by use of lane closures, traffic lane shifts, and flag control and will influence traffic traveling on U.S. 41, McClellan Avenue north and south of Washington Street, McClellan Avenue north and south of U.S. 41, Washington Street east and west of McClellan Avenue, and Baraga Avenue east and west of McClellan Avenue.

The public is urged to use extreme caution and follow all warning signs, lane shifts, detour routes, and other traffic control measures. The work is expected to last until the end of September.

The City of Marquette asks you for your patience during this process.
